Lana‘i is served by the Maui Electric Company, which has about 9 megawatts of capacity on the island, including a 1.2-megawatt PV project that began operating in 2008. Lana‘i has good wind resources on the northwest portion of the island. Castle & Cooke, Inc., which owns the majority of Lana‘i, has proposed a 200-megawatt wind farm for providing power to O‘ahu via undersea cable. The proposal remains under discussion.
