Progress Through Policy
The success of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI) is largely due to its unprecedented collaboration of energy stakeholders and framework of policies put in place to guide Hawaii’s energy transformation. The mainstays of HCEI’s policy agenda are its renewable energy portfolio and energy efficiency targets, which have been codified into law. Other policies that have grown out of HCEI cover areas such as regulatory reform, tax policy and clean energy financing. Together these policies and practices serve as the guideposts that keep Hawaii’s energy transformation on track. The timeline below highlights some of the key milestones put in place since the adoption of HCEI in 2008, and is not meant to be a complete listing of all policies developed over that period.
