(Brighter Energy) The US Army has ordered four all-electric APVs from Canadian firm Rapid Electric Vehicles as part of a micro grid testing program at Wheeler Air Base, Hawaii.
This spring, three REV 300ACXs and one REC 300AZX will be provided to test out a micro grid that will use power sources including renewable energy. Read more

(Pacific Business News) Metcalf West will soon unveil what it is calling a first-of-its-kind high-gain photovoltaic system in Hawaii.
The blessing of the 22-kilowatt system will take place Aug. 31, with Gov. Linda Lingle and Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi scheduled to be in attendance. Designed and implemented by Skyline Solar, the PV system is comprised of solar arrays and has been installed at Metcalf’s headquarters in Kailua-Kona. Read more

(Honolulu Star-Advertiser) Although it may have caught us by surprise, there’s a significant tech event coming Aug. 30 through Sept. 2: the Asia-Pacific Clean Energy Summit at the Hawai’i Convention Center.
In 2009 the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism’s inaugural summit attracted 800 people from 14 countries and Pacific islands. Some considered it a modest success. Others felt it was a platform built for the governor to crow about her 2008 Clean Energy Initiative. More »

(Honolulu Star-Advertiser) Starting this month, local buyers of new electric vehicles can qualify for up to $5,000 in federal stimulus rebates.
Right now the only car available in the islands that qualifies for that money is the Tesla Roadster, which lists for more than $100,000, but that’s expected to change once the first moderately priced consumer electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf arrive in Hawaii early next year. More »
